Description
Due to La Rosa’s position, they can produce small amounts of vintage ports in most years. 1997 is a fully declared year, and La Rosa declared a small quantity of excellent wine. Overall La Rosa have a drier house style than some of the other port houses but this port still has complex aromas of violets and berries, a vibrant grip, and is well balanced with a ripe fruity finish.
Their Vintage 1997 won a gold medal at the International Wine Challege in 1999. A stylish wine, very good indeed. Like all their port the grapes were trodden and the resulting port was matured in old oak tonels of 5,500 litres before bottling after 20 months.
